November 7-11

Language Arts
We are continuing to work on spelling words with long vowel sounds that use the CVCe pattern. Since we only have three days this week, we won’t have any new spelling words, but we’ll continue to read our story The Big Circle, and focus on writing about dinosaurs. In grammar we will continue looking at proper nouns, focusing on the names of holidays, days of the week, and months of the year.

Math
We will begin to look at place value: ones, tens, and hundreds. This concept is important for the children since future lessons with regrouping will be based on their understanding of place value. It is one of those skills that is an important building block to understanding much more difficult skills, so we’ll work hard at it and quickly become experts!!

As a school there will be a focus on Veteran’s Day and the meaning of the holiday. We will be writing letters in support of veterans at the hospitals in Lexington and Louisville. Last year’s letters were greatly appreciated by the vets that got them!
